Five-alarm fire in Bayonne displaces 17 residents; arson task force investigating

BAYONNE, N.J. — A five-alarm fire tore through a residential building on Avenue C in Bayonne on Friday morning, damaging six apartments and displacing 17 residents, authorities said.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bayonne Fire Department said the blaze began around 11:45 a.m. in a bedroom of an apartment at 458 Avenue C. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames, which quickly spread to adjoining structures.

Despite the extensive damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Emergency responders worked to contain the fire, but it left several families without homes.

The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Bayonne Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire. Officials confirmed that the fire started in a bedroom, but its origins remain undetermined.
