COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 44-year-old man was killed in a shooting early Saturday morning while seated in a van parked outside an apartment complex on the 2900 block of Dana Drive, authorities reported.
Officers responded to the scene at approximately 1:43 a.m. on November 16, 2024, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, medics pronounced the victim, identified as Robert “Roderick” Smith, dead at the scene.
Witnesses provided conflicting accounts of the suspect’s actions following the shooting, with some reporting that the individual fled on foot while others claimed the suspect left in a white car traveling eastbound on Dana Drive toward North Gould Road.
Investigators are urging local residents with security cameras in the area to review footage captured during the time of the incident. Authorities have provided a dedicated URL and QR code for residents to upload any video or still images that could assist in identifying the suspect or suspects.
The Columbus Police Department continues to investigate the homicide and is asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
