Electric vehicle charging stations bring green energy boost to Seaside Heights

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. — Six dual-port electric vehicle charging stations have been installed in Seaside Heights as part of a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) stemming from a settlement with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Air Compliance & Enforcement program.

Four of the stations are located at 55 Grant Avenue, while two others can be found at 21 Hancock Avenue, providing a total of 12 charging ports in municipal parking lots near the beach and boardwalk. The stations were funded by SEP dollars, which also supported signage to advertise their locations.

Electric vehicle owners can enjoy discounted parking rates at the charging station locations, which are within walking distance of major attractions. The ChargePoint app allows users to track their vehicle’s battery levels and calculate greenhouse gas reductions during charging.

Environmental data from the project predicts significant emissions reductions over the next five years, including the prevention of about 300 pounds of volatile organic compounds and 50 tons of carbon dioxide, which the app equates to planting 1,200 trees.

These reductions are expected to contribute to improved air quality and public health in the Seaside Heights area, offering both environmental and community benefits.
