WASHINGTON — A 22-year-old Washington, D.C., man was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison for an armed carjacking and a separate armed robbery in 2022, according to U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela A. Smith.

Deangelo Richardson pleaded guilty in August 2024 to one count of armed carjacking and one count of armed robbery in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Judge Erik Christian imposed the sentence, which includes five years of supervised release following his prison term.

Prosecutors said the carjacking occurred on July 14, 2022, when Richardson and two masked accomplices, all armed, carried out a series of violent crimes in Northeast D.C. The trio ultimately targeted a woman parking her car in the 600 block of Morton Place NE. After threatening her at gunpoint, they stole her car, phone, and credit cards, which Richardson later used at local businesses.

Richardson’s armed robbery took place on November 26, 2022, in the 1300 block of South Carolina Avenue SE. Authorities said Richardson parked his car ahead of a couple walking their dog, then jumped out with a gun and robbed the husband of his phone. He was arrested later that night following a police pursuit.

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Carjacking Task Force and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Evans and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Omeed Assefi.

Richardson’s conviction highlights ongoing efforts to combat gun violence and carjacking in the District.
