JACKSON, N.J. — The Jackson School District has begun exploring potential redistricting and restructuring plans aimed at addressing class size inequities, improving access to academic and extracurricular opportunities, and resolving facility challenges, officials announced.
District administrators stressed that no decisions have been made, as the Strategic, Redistricting and Restructuring Planning (SRRP) Committee is still in the research and analysis phase. “We’ve already heard dozens of rumors that one thing or another has been decided. We want to be clear about the work we are doing, the timeline for any decisions, and our commitment to keeping you informed,” the district wrote in a letter to parents and staff.
Are schools going to close? The district has not said anything about that, but also said no final decisions have been made. This year, the district closer Rosenauer Elementary School.
Teachers and families are urging the public to attend a meeting Wednesday night of the school board.
The district is already reeling from budget cuts and downsizing under the state’s S2 funding formula.
The committee is examining enrollment data, building capacities, and grade-span models to determine long-term solutions while considering the district’s budget constraints. Input from a district-wide survey is also being reviewed to help shape the committee’s recommendations.
Public updates will be provided during monthly Board of Education meetings, with the next sessions scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 11, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, when the committee will present its recommendations and hold a public hearing. A final decision is expected in January 2025 to allow time for implementation planning and communication with affected families.
District officials emphasized their commitment to minimizing student disruptions and ensuring that any potential changes address both academic and social-emotional needs.
