Whoopi Goldberg Doubles Down on Claim That Staten Island Bakery Denied Her Birthday Treats Over Politics

Whoopi Goldberg isn’t backing down from her claim that Holtermann’s, New York City’s oldest bakery denied her service because of her twisted and often harmful political opinions and statements.

Whoopi Goldberg has found herself at the center of a growing controversy involving Staten Island’s Holtermann’s Bakery, and she’s making it clear that she has no intention of walking back her remarks. The dispute stems from Goldberg’s claim that the bakery refused to fulfill her birthday dessert order, allegedly due to political bias. Holtermann’s has strongly denied the accusation, attributing the issue to equipment constraints, not politics.

Addressing the situation directly, Goldberg defended her position while stopping short of offering any apology. During a recent episode of The View, she explained that she had intentionally refrained from identifying the bakery by name or location but stood by her account of events. According to Goldberg, her team placed an order for desserts weeks ahead of her birthday but was informed that the bakery couldn’t process the request due to equipment limitations. However, she claims that a similar order placed by another party—without using her name—was accepted without issue.

“There seems to be a lot of talk about the dessert I requested for my birthday show,” Goldberg remarked. “I never mentioned the name of the bakery or the location. But it does seem odd that when we called, we were told they couldn’t process the order, and yet the same dessert was possible for someone else.”

Her apology, or lack thereof, doesn’t matter. Holtermann’s doesn’t need Whoopi or her negative publicity and fans lined up around the building all weekend to patronize the historic local business.

Holtermann’s has categorically denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that their decision was strictly operational and unrelated to Goldberg’s identity or political views. The bakery, a staple in the Staten Island community for over 150 years, issued statements emphasizing their commitment to serving all customers equally.

Despite the bakery’s firm denials, Goldberg’s comments have ignited heated debate online. Critics accuse her of using her platform to stoke unnecessary controversy, while her supporters argue that her concerns warrant scrutiny. The incident has also drawn broader commentary on celebrity influence and the increasingly polarized cultural climate.
