GERMANTOWN, MD — A lucky Maryland Lottery player from Germantown is celebrating a $50,000 holiday windfall after hitting the top prize on the new Holiday Luck Doubler scratch-off game, officials announced.
The winner, who chose to remain anonymous and goes by the nickname “Blessing from Above,” claimed the prize after purchasing two Holiday Luck Doubler tickets at Safeway #1579 on Germantown Road. Her $50,000 win came as an early holiday surprise after she used a $100 Pick 4 prize to buy the scratch-offs.
“There were only two of the Holiday Luck Doubler in the machine, so I bought both of them,” said “Blessing from Above.” She matched one of the winning numbers on the second ticket, revealing the $50,000 prize beneath it.
Excited and overwhelmed, she immediately texted a picture of the winning ticket to her best friend, who she calls “more like a sister.” The friend, who often shares in scratch-off fun, said she “screamed” when she saw the win.
The Montgomery County woman, who works in the medical field, plans to use her prize to help family members, pay off bills, and possibly take a well-deserved vacation.
The $5 Holiday Luck Doubler ticket launched in October with six $50,000 top prizes, of which five remain unclaimed. Safeway #1579 will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
The festive scratch-off is part of the Maryland Lottery’s Holiday 2024 Second-Chance Promotion, which offers non-winning tickets a chance to win additional cash prizes throughout the holiday season.
