New York State Trooper injured in crash on Southern State Parkway

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — A New York State Trooper was injured Saturday afternoon when his patrol vehicle was struck by a passing motorist on the Southern State Parkway, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. on November 9, as the Trooper was finishing a traffic stop on the westbound Exit 22N ramp in the town of Hempstead. According to officials, the Trooper was re-entering his vehicle when it was hit by an oncoming car.

The Trooper reported pain and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for evaluation. Officials stated that his injuries do not appear to be serious.

This collision underscores the daily hazards faced by law enforcement officers on the road, and serves as a reminder of New York’s “Move Over Law,” which requires drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles on the roadside.
