14-Year-Old Arrested for Brutal Murder and Sexual Assault of 91-Year-Old Woman

In a shocking incident that has stirred the quiet community of Reddick, Florida, a 14-year-old boy, identified as Jesse Stone, has been apprehended for the sexual battery and assault of a 91-year-old woman. The crime took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 9, 2024, when the elderly victim was woken by the intrusion in her home.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the attack occurred shortly before midnight. The victim, known to many in the community, was subjected to severe violence in what Sheriff Billy Woods described as a “cruel act of violence.” Stone allegedly entered the victim’s home through an unlocked door, assaulted her by beating her, and then carried out the sexual battery.

The breakthrough in the case came through diligent forensic work. DNA evidence collected at the scene was crucial in identifying Stone as the perpetrator. During his interview with Detective Caitlin Hartigan, Stone confessed to unlawfully entering the home, attacking, and sexually battering the victim.

Sheriff Woods expressed mixed emotions over the arrest. “This type of unimaginable violence is still shocking to me after all my years in law enforcement,” he remarked, highlighting the community’s support and the commendable work by his team. He also acknowledged the community’s role in providing tips that aided the investigation. “It came as a shock that any individual would commit such an act on a 91-year-old, but it is truly disturbing when we see the young age of the arrestee,” Sheriff Woods added, expressing a paternal concern for the suspect’s family, hoping the arrest would lead to preventive measures.

Jesse Stone, born on December 22, 2009, was taken into custody and has since been transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice, where he awaits further legal proceedings. The community of Reddick, while shaken, has shown resilience and support throughout this distressing ordeal.
