BALTIMORE — A Baltimore man plans to turn his recent $50,000 lottery win into a real estate investment, using his prize to renovate a property in North Carolina. The winner, who claimed his prize at the Maryland Lottery’s office, said he’s excited to put the money to work for his future.

The winning numbers for the Oct. 22 Pick 5 Evening drawing matched the zip code of his North Carolina property: 28001. Playing the postal code proved to be a lucky choice, leading to the $50,000 payout. “It’s got some fix ups, then I’m going to rent it out,” he said, noting that his winnings will help with needed renovations.

The Baltimore resident discovered his win while at a store buying more tickets. Initially focused on the Pick 3 and Pick 4 results, he did a double take when he saw his Pick 5 number displayed on the screen. “I couldn’t believe it,” he said.

In addition to Pick 5, the winner regularly plays Racetrax, Keno, and other lottery games, motivated by “just a chance to win.” He bought his winning ticket at the Victory 1 store in Westminster, which earned a $500 bonus for selling the lucky ticket.
