BRONX, N.Y. — Two Bronx men have been indicted on charges of attempted murder and other offenses for allegedly shooting two boys, ages 12 and 13, inside a McDonald’s restaurant in the Allerton neighborhood in July. Prosecutors say the attack was motivated by the boys’ alleged disrespect toward the defendants’ street crew.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced the indictments of Waynol Recio, 19, and Dreshawn Lucas, 21, on a range of charges, including two counts of attempted murder, first-degree criminal use of a firearm, and multiple counts of assault and weapons possession. The men are alleged members of the “1300” crew, according to the DA’s office.
“The defendants allegedly sought out the two children and fired at them multiple times in the middle of a McDonald’s supposedly because the boys disrespected their crew,” Clark said in a statement. “This brazen, senseless violence put the restaurant workers and other customers at risk. Fortunately, the boys survived the shooting, but their lives have been changed.”
The incident occurred on the night of July 6, 2024, around 10:00 p.m., at the McDonald’s on White Plains Road near Mace Avenue. According to investigators, Recio entered the restaurant wearing a mask after Lucas allegedly drove him to the location. Once inside, Recio allegedly opened fire, striking the 12-year-old victim three times — in the leg, back, and buttocks — and shooting the 13-year-old once in the leg.
Both boys were hospitalized and survived their injuries. The shooting caused panic among other customers and employees inside the restaurant.
Recio was arraigned on the charges on Thursday before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Seth Steed, who ordered him held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on December 13, 2024. Lucas’s arraignment date has not yet been set.
