Crews from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service have made significant strides in containing a wildfire in Rockaway Township, Morris County, which has affected approximately 77 acres. As of now, the fire is 70% contained.
While 13 structures are at risk, there have been no evacuations reported, a testament to the efficiency of the teams on the ground. Jacobs Road remains closed to ensure public safety and to allow emergency vehicles to operate without obstruction.
In battling the blaze, forest fire hand crews and engines have been deployed, and local Morris County fire companies are providing crucial structure protection for the threatened homes and buildings.
Additionally, on Saturday, a helicopter performed 15 water drops, each carrying 350 gallons of water, helping to slow the fire’s progression. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the concerted effort of all teams involved has been instrumental in limiting its impact so far. While containment is progressing well, officials continue to monitor the situation closely.
