Council Candidate Puts Jackson on Legal Notice With $500,000 Tort Claim, Lawsuit

JACKSON, NJ – Elenor Hannum, a perennial town crier in Jackson Township who routinely launches baseless accusations against town officials, police officers, township employees, and elected officials was called ‘out of order’ at a 2024 Jackson Township Council meeting, she filed a $250,000 tort claim against the township.

Hannum put the township on notice, claiming that Township Council President Jennifer Kuhn and Township Attorney New Jersey Assemblyman Gregory McGuckin violated her First Amendment rights.

Hannum noted that she intended to sue the two public officials, each for $250,000. The East Brunswick school teacher claims the township has damaged her reputation and her ability to earn income as a tutor.

She earns $81,246 annually as a teacher, plus full health benefits.

This week, her husband and running mate for office, Eric Hannum, said the couple is not suing the township but acknowledged the $500,00 tort claim, so they can sue the township in the future if they choose to do so.

Hannum was escorted out of a town hall meeting after accusing public officials of improper relationships in their personal lives. If elected, Hannum and Hannum would be the first husband and wife duo to serve together on the Jackson Council.

At a recent meeting, she boasted that she is now teaching other residents on how to effectively sue the township.

Online detractors have expressed that they believe Hannum’s tort claim is nothing more than a grift for personal enrichment.
