Tragic Collision Claims Life of Woman Walking Dog in Woodbridge

WOODBRIDGE, VA – Police in Prince William County are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Thursday morning.

Just after 6:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of Mapledale Drive to investigate the crash. Investigators determined that a 30-year-old Woodbridge man was driving a Nissan Versa on Mapledale Drive when he veered off the roadway, drove onto the sidewalk, and struck 57-year-old Maria Isabel Cardozo as she walked her dog.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the location and was not injured; authorities confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. Cardozo’s dog was later found near her home and was unharmed.
