OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. — Marciano Sanchez, 40, of Queens, New York, will remain detained in the Ocean County Jail following a court ruling on Thursday. Sanchez faces charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, linked to a 2010 incident in Brick Township.
Sanchez had been a fugitive since the incident, which took place on November 29, 2010. Authorities apprehended him in New York City on October 2, 2024, after over a decade on the run. He was extradited to New Jersey on October 9.
The detention decision was made by Judge Wendel E. Daniels, who is retired but temporarily assigned to the case. Sanchez has been held in the Ocean County Jail since his extradition.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Nicholas Mezza.
Sanchez has an ICE detainer. It is not certain whether or not that detainer will be honored by local officials.
