Three Teens Arrested for Brutal Murder of 46-Year-Old Man in Manhattan

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Three young men have been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 46-year-old man in Washington Heights earlier this month, police said.

Vernard Floranda, of 601 West 160th Street, was identified as the victim of the shooting that occurred shortly after midnight on October 2 at West 160th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Police responded to a 911 call at approximately 12:05 a.m. and found Floranda with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where he was pronounced dead.

A second victim, a 25-year-old man, was privately transported to New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left ankle. He remains in stable condition.

Following an investigation, police arrested three suspects on October 16. A 17-year-old male, whose name has not been released, Jason Texeira, 18, of the Bronx, and Jeremiah Bascombe, 19, also of the Bronx, were each charged with two counts of second-degree murder, second-degree assault, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing. Authorities have not yet provided details on a possible motive.
