Queens Woman Sentenced to 27 Years for Manslaughter and Burglary

Queens, NY— Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced the sentencing of Haiyan Deng to 27 years in prison for the manslaughter of a man in her Flushing apartment and a related burglary in September 2021. First responders discovered 26-year-old Justin Li dead from a single gunshot wound to the head in Deng’s bed. This incident followed a prior event at Li’s Bayside home, which resulted in a separate burglary charge.

Deng, aged 34 and residing on 39th Avenue in Flushing, pled guilty last month to manslaughter in the first degree and burglary in the second degree. Supreme Court Justice Ushir Pandit-Durant delivered the sentence, assigning 22 years for the manslaughter charge and five years for the burglary, to be served consecutively.

The investigation revealed that on September 11, 2021, around 7:40 p.m., Deng unlawfully entered Li’s Bayside home and confronted his wife, resulting in a trespass summons and a first-degree burglary charge.
