Fair Lawn, NJ – The Fair Lawn Police Department has issued a warning to local residents concerning a surge in scams affecting the community. Over the past month, incidents have increased where scammers, primarily targeting elderly individuals, have attempted to steal substantial sums of money.

The department highlighted the “Grandparent Scam” where individuals receive calls claiming their grandchildren are in trouble. Victims are instructed to withdraw large sums of money for a courier pick-up.

Another scam involves reports of computer hacking where residents are similarly told to withdraw funds, with a courier sent to collect the money. In these incidents, financial losses of $15,000 and $22,000 have been reported.

Residents are reminded that the Fair Lawn Police Department or legitimate organizations will never send a courier to pick up money. Any suspicious calls requesting money should be reported immediately to the Fair Lawn Police Department at 201-796-1400.
