PORTLAND, Ore. — A man died in the hospital five days after being shot in Northeast Portland, authorities said.
Anthony Dwayne Bell, Jr., 38, of Portland, was shot on Friday, October 4, 2024, while driving near Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Columbia Boulevard. According to Portland police, an officer enroute to an unrelated call was flagged down around 5:43 p.m. regarding a vehicle crash at the intersection. The officer discovered Bell had been shot prior to the crash.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene, and Bell was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. He died of his injuries on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
The Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) was called to the scene to investigate. Preliminary findings indicate that the shooting occurred when a suspect or suspects in another vehicle opened fire on Bell’s car. The suspects fled the scene, and no arrests have been made.
No descriptions of the suspects have been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
