TOLEDO, Ohio — A 36-year-old man was hospitalized Sunday after being run over by a vehicle driven by his 9-year-old son during a driving lesson at their home on Carbon Street, authorities said. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. and was captured on surveillance video obtained by local media.
The footage shows Clejuan Williams standing by the open driver’s side door of the vehicle as he instructed his son. According to police, Williams told the boy to press the brake, but the child mistakenly hit the gas, causing the car to reverse. As the vehicle backed into the street, Williams was dragged alongside it and eventually pulled under the car when it collided with a telephone pole.
Paramedics transported Williams to the hospital following the accident. His current condition has not been disclosed. Police confirmed that Williams was intoxicated at the time of the incident. Neither the 9-year-old nor another child who was in the backseat were injured.
Williams was arrested on charges of child endangerment and wrongfully entrusting a person without a license, according to court records. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 16.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the ongoing investigation.
