Two Shootings Under Investigation in D.C.

WASHINGTON — Authorities are investigating two separate fatal shootings that occurred over the weekend in Washington, D.C., police said.

The first incident took place on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at approximately 5:08 a.m. in the 2200 block of Adams Place, Northeast. Officers responded to a report of a man down and found 44-year-old Erik Mewborn, of Northeast D.C., unconscious with a gunshot wound. DC Fire and EMS arrived on the scene, but Mewborn was pronounced dead after showing no signs of life.

Less than 24 hours later, on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at around 2:43 a.m., police responded to a shooting inside a residence in the 2300 block of Marion Barry Avenue, Southeast. Officers located 36-year-old David Washington, of Southeast D.C., unconscious with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene by DC Fire and EMS.

Homicide detectives are investigating both cases. Police have not announced any arrests or provided further details on potential suspects.
