MARYDEL, Md. — A small structure fire on Stafford Road on Saturday evening resulted in an estimated $1,000 in damages, according to officials. The fire broke out at 5:44 p.m. in a detached 8-by-14-foot wood-framed shed at 27066 Stafford Road.
The shed, owned by Amber Christopher, was destroyed. There were no injuries or fatalities. Smoke alarms and fire sprinklers were not present in the building, according to a notice of investigation.
The Marydel Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene with six firefighters, controlling the blaze in about 10 minutes. The fire, which was discovered by a neighbor, originated on the exterior of the shed.
Preliminary findings suggest that the fire was caused by discarded smoking materials, investigators said. No arrests have been made.
