SANDUSKY, Ohio — A 29-year-old man from Sandusky, initially identified as the 911 caller who reported his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter missing, is now facing charges for allegedly strangling the child to death. Devin O’Brien contacted authorities on Thursday evening, claiming that the toddler had vanished from their mobile home park residence on Venice Road.

O’Brien called 911 around 9 p.m., stating that the child and his dog were missing after he took a nap. In the recorded 911 call, partially aired by local Fox affiliate WJW, O’Brien can be heard telling the dispatcher, “I ran around our neighborhood and I cannot find her anywhere.” When asked by the dispatcher for the child’s age, he confirmed she was three years old.

Authorities say O’Brien had initially suggested that the girl and his dog were possibly taken by a “deadbeat drug guy” while he was asleep. However, investigators now accuse O’Brien of strangling the child.

The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement works to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
