FREEHOLD, N.J. — A Monmouth County Grand Jury has returned a four-count indictment against a former youth gymnastics coach accused of sexually assaulting three of his former athletes while they were juveniles, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Monday.
Sasha C. Raught, 56, of Manchester Township, faces one count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and three counts of second-degree sexual assault. The charges are tied to allegations that Raught engaged in sexual relationships with the athletes when they were teenagers.
According to investigators, the first two incidents allegedly occurred during the 1990s, when Raught worked at Shrewsbury Gymnastics. The third incident reportedly took place in 2008 while he was employed at Jonas Gymnastics Academy in Marlboro.
Raught was arrested in May 2023 at his home by members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Manchester Police, and Shrewsbury Police. He was subsequently held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
The case is being prosecuted by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Keri-Leigh Schaefer.
