LEWES, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating multiple incidents of skimming devices found at Wawa locations in Sussex County. The devices, which were attached to self-checkout kiosks, may have compromised customers’ credit or debit card information.
Authorities discovered the skimmers at four Wawa stores, including locations in Millsboro, Rehoboth Beach, and Lewes. Police are urging customers who made transactions at these locations between Aug. 31 and Sept. 14 to check their bank or credit card accounts for any unauthorized charges.
The affected Wawa stores include 24930 John J. Williams Highway in Millsboro, 30155 Veterans Way and 35436 Wolfe Neck Road in Rehoboth Beach, and 17663 Dartmouth Drive in Lewes.
Investigators are working to determine how long the devices were in place and who is responsible. Police have advised customers to report any suspicious transactions or possible skimming devices to law enforcement.
Skimming devices are typically used to steal card information by capturing details from the magnetic strip or chip, often with an attached camera to record PIN entries.
