PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred early Saturday morning in Southwest Philadelphia. The incident, which involved a verbal altercation and a vehicle, left a 28-year-old man dead.
At approximately 3:20 a.m. on Sept. 15, officers from the 12th District responded to a call about an auto accident near the intersection of 61st Street and Passyunk Avenue. Upon arriving, officers found an unconscious man lying on the roadway.
Preliminary details from the investigation indicate that the victim had been involved in a verbal dispute with the driver of a white Dodge Durango with tinted windows. The victim approached the vehicle and stood in front of it when the driver accelerated, striking and dragging him approximately 100 feet. The driver briefly exited the vehicle, observed the victim, and then fled the scene.
The victim was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:04 a.m.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or submit anonymous tips by calling or texting 215-686-TIPS (8477). A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
