OCEAN CITY, Md. — The Ocean City Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run collision that left a 16-year-old male in critical condition after being struck by a motorcycle at the intersection of 12th Street and Philadelphia Ave on Friday night.

The incident occurred around 9:34 p.m. on Sept. 13. According to police, the juvenile was walking in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a motorcyclist traveling southbound at a high speed. Ocean City Emergency Services treated the juvenile on the scene before he was flown to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore by Maryland State Police Aviation. His injuries are described as life-threatening.

The motorcyclist, identified as Michael Scot Schneider, 51, of Ballston Spa, New York, lost control of his motorcycle after the impact, hitting a parked motorcycle and a second parked vehicle. Police said Schneider fled the scene immediately following the collision.

Schneider was apprehended several hours later at the Park and Ride in West Ocean City with the help of Maryland State Police. Officers noted signs of impairment and injuries consistent with a motorcycle collision. He was taken to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional for treatment, where a blood sample was collected to determine his alcohol concentration.

Schneider faces twelve traffic-related charges, including driving under the influence and failing to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in bodily injury or death. He is currently being held without bond at Worcester County Jail.
