CUMBERLAND, MD – The Cumberland Police Department made several arrests on Friday, September 13, 2024, following citizen complaints and ongoing investigations into multiple incidents of assault and harassment throughout the city.
Valerie Hamilton, 47, and Michael Paul Gutillo, 45, both of Cumberland, were each charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Both individuals were served with criminal summonses and released pending their trials at Allegany County District Court.
Additionally, Aaron Michael Thrasher, 42, was arrested and charged with harassment following another citizen complaint. He was also released pending trial.
In a separate incident, Justin Michael Demoss, 28, was apprehended after attempting to flee from officers following an assault report. Demoss faces multiple charges, including first- and second-degree assault, false imprisonment, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. He was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
Later in the day, police responded to an altercation on Columbia Street involving Joshua Aaron Kight, 35, and Nicholas McKinley, both of whom were injured and arrested for assaulting each other. Kight was released on a $15,000 unsecured bond, while McKinley was released on his own recognizance.
All cases are pending trial in Allegany County District Court.
