Bronx man arrested on murder, drug charges following fatal shooting

BRONX, N.Y. — A Bronx man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting last week, along with a series of drug-related offenses, police said.

Kelvin Mata, 32, of Creston Avenue, was taken into custody following a shooting that occurred on Wednesday morning in the vicinity of East 180th Street and Creston Avenue. Authorities responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:33 a.m. and found an unconscious and unresponsive male with gunshot wounds to the face and back.

The victim was transported to Saint Barnabas Hospital in critical condition, where he later died. His identity has not been released.

Mata has been charged with one count of murder, one count of first-degree manslaughter, and multiple counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance, including 169 counts in the third degree and one count in the fifth degree. He also faces a charge of criminal possession of a firearm.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
