FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A man has been arrested and faces 18 criminal charges in connection to a fatal crash that occurred nearly three years ago, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department (FLPD) announced.
Derrick Eaglin, 63, was arrested on Thursday following a lengthy traffic homicide investigation. The crash, which took place on September 25, 2021, near the intersection of Southwest 9th Avenue and Davie Boulevard, involved two vehicles. Both vehicles collided after entering the intersection from different directions, according to police.
All occupants of the vehicles were transported to Broward Health Medical Center. One passenger, identified as Carolyn Campbell, 55, died from injuries sustained in the crash nearly a year later, in August 2022.
Eaglin faces multiple charges including two counts of DUI manslaughter, one count of vehicular homicide, and several counts of reckless driving and DUI-related offenses. The charges follow the conclusion of the FLPD’s traffic homicide investigation.
The police have urged anyone who encounters drivers suspected of being under the influence to report them immediately when it is safe to do so.
