NEW CASTLE, DE – Delaware State Police have arrested Colleen Floyd, 32, of Delaware City, and David Mitchell, 55, of Newark, in connection with a burglary at the abandoned Emily Bissell Hospital in Wilmington. Both suspects face charges for multiple offenses after a series of break-ins and thefts at the now-shuttered facility.
The investigation began in August 2024, following reports of trespassing and theft at the vacant hospital located on Newport Gap Pike. Officers launched surveillance efforts to monitor activity at the site. On September 8, police observed a suspect on camera leaving the building with copper piping and other materials, causing substantial damage to the property.
On September 10, surveillance footage captured Floyd and Mitchell entering the facility. Troopers responded quickly and, after hearing sawing noises inside, apprehended both suspects. Mitchell was carrying a backpack that matched one used in a previous burglary.
Both suspects were charged at Troop 2 with a range of crimes related to the incident.
