MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — A Maryland State Police helicopter rescued a 25-year-old construction worker who fell from a rooftop in Hardy County on Monday, authorities said. The worker, injured in the fall from a multi-story house, was airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for treatment.
The Maryland State Police Aviation Command deployed Trooper 5, based in Cumberland, Maryland, to perform the hoist mission at the request of local first responders.
The terrain and severity of the worker’s injuries prompted the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department and West Hardy Emergency Medical Service to seek aerial assistance.
The AW-139 helicopter hovered over the site while a Trooper/Paramedic was lowered to the scene, enabling the rescue. The mission was completed successfully, police said.
The Maryland State Police Aviation Command, which has operated since 1970, provides 24-hour coverage across Maryland, including medevac, search and rescue, and law enforcement support.
