NEW YORK, N.Y. — The New York City Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a man wanted in connection with an assault and hate crime that occurred on a northbound “A” train on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
According to police reports, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a 29-year-old man was verbally and physically attacked while aboard the train as it approached the 59th Street-Columbus Circle station. The unidentified assailant allegedly approached the victim and shouted anti-LGBTQ+ slurs before striking him in the face. After the assault, the suspect fled the scene on foot.

The victim sought medical attention at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center for injuries to his face and back. His condition was not immediately available. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation.
The suspect is described as a man with a dark complexion and a slim build. He was last seen wearing a purple bucket hat, black tank top, black pants, and purple, black, and white sneakers. He was also wearing sunglasses and carrying a black plastic bag.
