NEWARK, N.J. — A Newark man was sentenced to 131 months in prison for an armed robbery in Essex County, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced Friday.
Quayon Moore, 25, pleaded guilty to charges of Hobbs Act robbery and using and discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. U.S. District Judge Michael E. Farbiarz handed down the sentence in Newark federal court.
According to court documents and statements, the robbery took place on December 8, 2021. Moore entered a store, pointed a gun at an employee, and demanded money and valuables. During the robbery, Moore discharged the firearm, and the bullet struck the wall behind the employee. Moore then stole cash from the register and an iPhone while continuing to aim the firearm at the victim.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Farbiarz sentenced Moore to five years of supervised release and ordered him to pay $1,000 in restitution.
