Registered Sex Offender Arrested After Showing Up at School Sporting Event

CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Cumberland Police Department arrested a local man on Thursday after he was found violating sex offender restrictions by attending a sporting event on public school property.

Billy Wayne Bradfield II, 37, of Cumberland, was served with a criminal summons issued by the Allegany County District Court in connection with an incident that took place on August 25, 2024. Officers responded to a report of a sex offender present at the event, which was held on school grounds in the City of Cumberland.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers made contact with Bradfield, who claimed he was unaware of any restrictions prohibiting him from being on the property. He was removed from the premises following the initial encounter. However, further investigation revealed that Bradfield, as a registered sex offender, was not legally permitted to be on school grounds.

As a result, the Cumberland Police Department applied for charges against Bradfield, leading to the issuance of a criminal summons by the Allegany County District Court. Bradfield was subsequently served with the summons and released pending a trial.

Bradfield has been charged with “Registered Person entering Restricted Property,” and his case will be heard in District Court.
