A Prince George’s County resident and devoted fan of jackpot games has once again found success with the Mega Millions, this time walking away with a $30,000 prize from a mid-July drawing. This marks the second significant win for the federal employee, who previously claimed a $40,000 prize two years ago from the same multistate jackpot game.
The loyal player, who regularly participates in Powerball, Mega Millions, and Multi-Match drawings, made his second visit to Maryland Lottery headquarters this week to claim his prize. He shared that while he occasionally misses a drawing, he never forgets to purchase a ticket for Mega Millions, which has become his favorite among the Lottery’s offerings.
“I buy a ticket for just about every Powerball, Mega Millions, and Multi-Match drawing,” he told Lottery officials. “Once in a while, I may miss one of them, but I will never ever forget to get a ticket on a Mega Millions night,” he added with a smile.
The winner attributes his routine of buying and accumulating tickets over several weeks to the delay in discovering his latest win. “I buy tickets for all three games each week, but I don’t check the results right away. I wait until I have a sizeable stack of them before I do. Sometimes it’s not until three weeks after the drawing.”
It wasn’t until early this week that he stopped by a Lottery retailer to scan his tickets. When he saw the $30,000 readout on his July 19 Mega Millions ticket, he was initially in disbelief. After scanning the ticket multiple times, he confirmed the win, realizing that his decision to add the Megaplier to his $3 quick-pick ticket had tripled his $10,000 prize.
The player plans to put his winnings directly into his retirement fund, a goal he and his wife have been focusing on recently. The winning ticket was purchased at Party Time Liquors, located at 3307 Rhode Island Avenue in Mt. Rainier. Reflecting on his success, the player promised, “Party Time will be my Mega Millions ticket location from now on. Who knows, I’ve won twice now—maybe the third time will be the jackpot.”
