Brick Township, N.J. – The Brick Township Police Department is alerting residents to a scam in which callers are fraudulently using the department’s phone number, 732-262-1100, in an attempt to deceive residents. The department has received three complaints from individuals who were contacted by someone claiming to be from the Brick Township Police Department, seeking information related to a so-called “family report.”
The calls reportedly sound automated and reference the names of both past and current officers. The scam also involves instructing residents to respond to a Bitcoin machine, a tactic the police department stresses it would never employ.
“We want to emphasize that the Brick Township Police Department would never ask individuals to deposit money into a Bitcoin machine or make any other deposits,” the department stated.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant. If you receive a suspicious call, the police advise you to hang up immediately and contact the department directly to verify the legitimacy of the call. It is important to never give out personal information over the phone unless you are certain of the caller’s authenticity.
The Brick Township Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its residents and appreciates the community’s cooperation in staying alert to these types of scams.
