Ocean City Police Seek Public's Help in Locating Discarded Handgun

OCEAN CITY, Md. — The Ocean City Police Department is asking for public assistance in locating a handgun that was discarded between 100th Street and 62nd Street on Coastal Highway early Thursday morning. The request follows an incident in which a driver, who had a handgun in his lap, fled from police during a traffic stop.

The incident began at approximately 4:39 a.m. when an officer encountered a vehicle stopped in the middle of Coastal Highway near 100th Street. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed a handgun in the driver’s lap. The driver then fled the scene, leading to a brief pursuit before being apprehended. However, the handgun was not recovered during the arrest.

Authorities are urging residents and visitors in the area to be vigilant and report any sightings of the handgun. The Ocean City Police Department advises the public not to touch the firearm if found and to immediately contact them at 410-723-6610.
