Trump Bashing Chris Christie to Headline Event for Gay U.S. Republican Senate Candidate

BAYHEAD, NJ—Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a vocal critic of Donald Trump, is set to headline a major fundraising event for U.S. Senate hopeful Curtis Bashaw.

The event, priced at $3,300 per attendee, will take place on August 12 at Charlie’s in Bayhead. Bashaw, an openly gay and prominent hotelier, recently secured the Republican nomination by defeating Mendham Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner despite Trump’s endorsement of Glassner.

In addition to Christie, other political figures, such as Joe Buckalew, co-owner of Connor Strong and Buckelew, will also attend. Buckalew’s business connections extend to George Norcross, a South Jersey Democrat who has been indicted.

The fundraiser is being organized by Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore.

Christie, who has been openly critical of Trump over the past four years, will use this platform to support Bashaw, who is gearing up to challenge Rep. Andy Kim in the general election.

This Senate seat is currently held by Sen. Bob Menendez who has been convicted of political corruption and bribery. Menendez will not be running for re-election and will resign later this month. Bashaw will run against Democrat Congressman Andy Kim.

New Jersey Assemblyman Doug Steinhardt, 1980s GOP donor Larry Bathgate, and New Jersey Senator Michael Testa will also appear at the event.
