Extended Heat Advisory and Storm Forecast for the Mid-Atlantic Region
A heat advisory remains in effect across multiple areas from noon today until 8 PM EDT this evening, as heat index values are expected to reach around 105 degrees. The advisory covers various parts of Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.
Hot and humid conditions will continue through Wednesday, with afternoon heat index values anticipated to be around 105 degrees each day. The weather situation may become more complicated as the remnants of Beryl are predicted to cause isolated urban and poor drainage flooding from Wednesday into Thursday.
For today, expect isolated showers and thunderstorms beginning after 2 PM, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 98 degrees. The heat index could climb as high as 104 degrees. Winds will be from the southeast at 3 to 7 mph, and the chance of rain is about 20%.
Tonight, the region will see partly cloudy conditions with a low around 80 degrees and a light south wind continuing.
Tuesday will bring a slight chance of showers in the morning, followed by a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 PM. It will be mostly sunny with a high near 96 degrees and heat index values again reaching up to 104 degrees. The chance of precipitation is set at 30%.
The pattern of intermittent showers and possible thunderstorms will persist through the week, with increasing chances of precipitation, especially from Thursday onwards. Thursday and Friday will see the likelihood of showers and possibly severe thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours, with temperatures slightly cooling by Friday to a high near 89 degrees.
