Three Elderly Women Injured in North Jersey Crash

WEEHAWKEN, NJ—A severe motor vehicle collision in Weehawken has resulted in serious injuries to three individuals and the arrest of the driver responsible for the incident. Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has confirmed the ongoing investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Weehawken Police Department.

The accident occurred on Friday, July 5, 2024, at around 9:50 p.m. near Avenue at Port Imperial and Port Imperial Boulevard. A Ford F350, driven by 25-year-old Luis Tubac-Socoy of Passaic, collided with a Honda CRV and subsequently struck two pedestrians before the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

The injured pedestrians, a 78-year-old woman from North Bergen and a 70-year-old woman from Florida, along with an 80-year-old female passenger from the Honda, were all transported to Jersey City Medical Center with serious injuries. Additionally, four other occupants of the Honda sustained minor injuries.

Luis Tubac-Socoy was later apprehended by the Weehawken Police Department and faces multiple charges including three counts of Assault by Auto, two counts of Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, one count of Aggravated Assault, and several other motor vehicle summonses.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather more details.
