Philadelphia, PA — A fatal shooting occurred on the evening of Saturday, June 29, 2024, on the Unit block of North 52nd Street, resulting in the death of 23-year-old William Shirley. Officers from the 19th District responded to reports of gunshots at approximately 7:50 PM and found Shirley lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds.
Shirley, who resided on the 5600 block of Upland Way, was immediately transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:05 PM.
Homicide detectives conducted a preliminary investigation and reviewed video footage, which suggests that Shirley was deliberately targeted. According to the investigation, the assailant arrived in a dark-colored midsize SUV, exited the vehicle, and shot Shirley multiple times at close range with a rifle before fleeing the scene. The specific make and model of the vehicle remain unknown.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing a mask, a black jacket or sweatshirt, dark pants, blue gloves, white and black sneakers, and armed with a rifle.
As of now, the motive for the shooting is unclear, and no arrests have been made. Philadelphia Police urge anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward to aid in the investigation and help bring the perpetrator to justice.
