Suspect Apprehended and Charged in Homicide Investigation

Perth Amboy, NJ – Authorities announced the apprehension and charging of Raymond Maldonado, 34, in connection with the homicide of Awilda Verrette, 80, who was found unresponsive in her home on June 30 at approximately 1:12 PM.

Maldonado, a relative of the victim who resided with her, was arrested without incident on July 1. He has been charged with first-degree murder and fourth-degree contempt for violating a restraining order. He is currently held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing.

Officials emphasized that this incident is not a random act of violence and poses no ongoing threat to public safety.
