Bergen County Distributes Free Narcan to Combat Opioid Overdoses

Bergen County, NJ — In a collaborative effort to tackle the opioid crisis, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, in partnership with the Lyndhurst Police Department and Levy’s Pharmacy of Lyndhurst, recently hosted a free Naloxone giveaway. A total of 83 doses of the life-saving drug were distributed to residents, marking a significant step in local overdose prevention initiatives.

Naloxone, commonly known by its brand name Narcan, is an emergency treatment for individuals experiencing a known or suspected opioid overdose. It works by rapidly reversing the effects of opioids, making it a crucial tool in the fight against the opioid epidemic.

The event underscores Bergen County’s commitment to increasing accessibility to Naloxone as part of its broader strategy to support individuals struggling with addiction. Residents were also reminded of the ongoing support available through the Bergen County Addiction Support Hotline, which can be reached at 201-589-2976 or via email at 247@cafsnj.org. This service provides confidential assistance 24/7 for those affected by addiction.
