Newark Police Seek Assistance in Carjacking Investigation
Newark, NJ – Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is requesting the public’s help in identifying individuals related to a carjacking that took place on Wednesday, June 26.
At approximately 5 a.m., a man parked in the 700 block of South 17th Street was approached by a Black male suspect wearing a black sweater and black face mask. The suspect opened the driver’s door and demanded the victim exit the vehicle at gunpoint. The victim fled westbound and found an ambulance at 18th Avenue and South 18th Street, where EMS personnel contacted the police.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect exiting the vehicle and walking with a group towards Avon Avenue. Newark police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect and the group members for questioning.
