CHERRY HILL, NJ — A significant brush fire at Cherry Hill High School West’s athletic fields prompted a swift response from multiple units of the Cherry Hill Fire Department this afternoon. The fire, which was accidental, originated from a hobby rocket that ignited dry grass, leading to a rapidly spreading blaze that consumed a large portion of the fields.
As the July 4th holiday approaches, the Cherry Hill Fire Department is emphasizing the importance of safety, especially in light of the current dry conditions. Residents are urged to exercise caution when setting off legal fireworks and to ensure that they are used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. It is particularly important to use ground-based novelty items outdoors and away from any combustible materials, including walls, fences, sheds, houses, and other structures.

The CHFD advises the community to be mindful of the dry grass and vegetation, which can easily catch fire due to the lack of recent rainfall. Residents are encouraged to take all necessary precautions to prevent accidental fires and to ensure a safe celebration during the upcoming holiday festivities.
