UVALDE, TX — Pedro “Pete” Arredondo, the former chief of the Uvalde school police force, has been indicted by a grand jury on multiple charges related to the 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School that resulted in the deaths of 19 children and two teachers. According to a report first published by the San Antonio Express-News, Arredondo faces 10 charges of child endangerment and criminal negligence.
In connection with the same incident, Adrian Gonzales, a former school police officer, has also been indicted on charges of child endangerment. Details regarding Gonzales’s detention and release have not been made clear.
Arredondo, who is 52 years old, turned himself into the Texas Rangers on Thursday and was subsequently detained at the Uvalde County Jail. He was released on a $10,000 surety bond and a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.
The indictments come over a year after the tragic events at Robb Elementary School, which have led to significant scrutiny over the response of law enforcement on the day of the shooting. The community and the families of the victims have been vocal in their demand for accountability, leading to these latest legal actions against the officers involved.
