Former NYPD Cop Pleads Guilty in Violent Love Triangle Shooting

NEW YORK, NY – Nearly three years following a grievous incident in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, former NYPD officer Yvonne Wu has entered a guilty plea to charges of first-degree manslaughter and attempted second-degree murder. This plea agreement anticipates a combined sentence of up to 27 years in prison.

On October 13, 2021, Wu, off-duty and using her NYPD-issued pistol, fatally shot 24-year-old Jamie Liang and wounded her ex-girlfriend, 23-year-old Jenny Li, in a devastating attack stemming from a romantic dispute. The assault occurred outside Li’s residence on 19th Avenue, where Liang suffered a chest wound and Li a torso injury.

The New York Attorney General’s Office, led by Letitia James, disclosed on Monday that Wu’s plea includes acknowledgment of her actions, which were reportedly confessed in a “calm, collected” manner at the scene. The case, marked by its dramatic and violent nature, was widely covered as a love triangle shooting.
