Temperatures to reach nearly 100 on Wednesday
TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey will get just one day for slightly cooler temperatures on Monday, but long term, there’s now relief or major rain systems in sight to undo the current heat wave.
An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening across parts of northern Delaware, central, northern, and southern New Jersey, as well as southeast Pennsylvania, including major cities such as Philadelphia, Wilmington, and New Brunswick. Residents in these areas are experiencing dangerously hot conditions with heat index values soaring up to 107 degrees.
Health officials warn that the combination of extreme heat and high humidity can significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. The public is urged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned environments, avoid sun exposure, and regularly check on relatives and neighbors. Authorities also caution against leaving young children and pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes.
Today’s weather forecast predicts mostly sunny skies with a high near 96 degrees, and heat index values could rise as high as 105. There is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 3 PM, with new rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch expected, although higher amounts could occur during thunderstorms.
Tonight, the region will see a greater likelihood of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 AM, with an 80% chance of precipitation and temperatures dropping to around 73 degrees. Monday will bring clearer skies and a sunny high near 85 degrees, with winds from the west around 15 mph. The night will remain mostly clear with a low around 63 degrees.
Tuesday’s forecast continues the sunny trend with temperatures climbing near 90 degrees. However, by Wednesday, the heat will intensify again with mostly sunny skies and a high nearing 97 degrees. Wednesday night could bring showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 8 PM and 2 AM, followed by a chance of more showers and thunderstorms after 2 AM, with a 60% chance of precipitation.
Looking ahead to Thursday, the area may see a 30% chance of showers and the possibility of thunderstorms after 2 PM, with partly sunny skies and a high near 87 degrees.
