Mercy House Celebrates Father’s Day with 300+ Gift Bags for Dads

Newark, N.J. – The Mercy House, operated by the Archdiocese of Newark as a resource and referral center, marked Father’s Day with a heartwarming gesture, distributing over 300 gift bags to fathers and their families across its locations in Elizabeth, Jersey City, and Newark. From June 12 to June 14, each Mercy House location distributed approximately 100 gift bags containing essentials like shaving cream, deodorant, socks, and other items donated by parishes within the Archdiocese.

Cheryl A. Riley, director of The Mercy House, emphasized the importance of recognizing fathers for their dedication and sacrifices. She expressed gratitude for the community support that made the Father’s Day Gift Giveaway possible, highlighting plans for future events such as an Italian Ice party with free school supplies in August, and giveaways for coats, Thanksgiving turkeys, and Christmas gifts later in the year.

Founded in 2018, The Mercy House serves as a vital support hub offering nonperishable food, clothing, baby supplies, furniture, and assistance with employment and housing. Operating weekly, its locations collectively assist approximately 300 individuals in need. For those interested in volunteering or making donations, especially financial contributions, Cheryl A.
